Flamands Blue Villa Logo Refresh & Website Redesign

This website redesign for a bright and sunny St. Barthelemy island villa was great fun to work on – especially beginning in late October as the cold in Chicago really started to set in.

Flamands Blue is a modern, beach-house style villa just up the hill from one of St. Barts' most well-liked beaches, Flamands Beach. Owners Jeff and Caroline bought and renovated the villa over 10 years ago, and had a friend build the first website, which remained the same for the next decade.

Jeff wanted to modernize the website to appeal to the wide range of guests that like to stay–and stay again–at the villa, while retaining the familiar charm and rapport that they had worked to build over the years.

We are both proud of the result:

We wanted to retain most of the content on the site, including the many positive reviews and visitor trip journals that Jeff has recorded over the years. So we decided refresh the content by refining it and laying it out differently, drawing some of the fun crowdsourced vacation photos to the forefront.

For the look and feel, we borrowed from the villa and its surroundings: clean modern whites, deep blues and aquas, and a hint of red-orange as a nod to the classic St. Barts rooftops.

We refreshed the logo, which was charming but appeared a bit dated and grainy.

We turned the Trips page into a blog, for improved search engine rankings, and of course made adjustments for SEO.

And we created a custom contact form to streamline Jeff's villa rental booking process. Creating this was actually one of my favorite parts of the process, since I know that it will help save Jeff some time. (He got an inquiry via the form on the first night that we launched the site! Not rehearsed, I swear.)

I like to include a website back-end training in my design packages, so that a client can feel empowered to update the site on their own. Jeff has had his training, and has already begun to make content updates to tweak photos and add new blog posts, which is cool to see.

After completing this project, one thing is for sure: I could look at photo of French Caribbean islands while working all day long.
