Visualizing Justice: Graphic Notes from Penn Carey Law’s Spring Symposium
Recently, we had the honor of partnering with the Quattrone Center for the Fair Administration of Justice at Penn Carey Law School to bring their annual symposium to life through live graphic recording. The 2025 symposium tackled some of the most pressing issues in criminal justice today—from wrongful convictions to holistic defense—and we translated five key sessions into vivid visual narratives.

Each illustrated panel captures the heart of a complex conversation:
Beyond the Headlines: The Fight to Free C.J. Rice spotlights accountability gaps and systemic resistance to error correction.
Enhancing Police Data Practices explores the pipeline from police to court data and the urgent need for real-time insights and transparency.
AI & Technology in Criminal Justice surfaces the promise and pitfalls of algorithmic tools, emphasizing the importance of trust, customization, and equity.
Prosecutorial Discretion Research highlights how discretion, when wielded with purpose, can be a powerful tool for reform and legitimacy.
Examining Holistic Defense centers clients as agents of change, prioritizing community re-entry, relationship-building, and local control.
Each session was drawn in real time and reflected back to attendees during the event—sparking conversation, deepening memory, and celebrating the complexity of this work.
We were thrilled to hear from the client afterward, who shared a glowing video testimonial about the impact of this work on the symposium experience. (We'll be sharing that soon!)
These visuals now live on as lasting artifacts of the conversation—and of the movement for a more just system.
